Works In Progress

or, The Detritus of the Painting Table...

So the Storm Eagle is proceeding apace. I'm constantly struck by how cool this kit is, especially now I've got some paint on it. No real ado here, check it out:

He's rocking fully tinted glass. It's illegal, but what are the Adeptus Arbites going to do?

You can sort of see the black identification stripe pattern here

And slightly better here. Masking tape, how I do love thee!
In other news, as the title suggests, I'm trying to finish up a few of the projects I've had hanging around for a while. Up first is this Land Speeder Storm. I had some really thin brass tube that I got at IPMS a few years ago (yes those hair-thin black lines are brass tube) that I figured would probably work quite well for rappelling lines. And after a bit of swearing, some tweezer/activator shenanigans, and trimming a few silencers from Scout bolt pistols, we have this:

Heavy bolter guy out front is ruining their cover...

Spec ops, yeah!

Scout-novice Hawkeye is silently despairing at Scout-Novice Johnson

'It's my last mag... make it count!' etc

Every scout squad needs a guy so badass that he doesn't have a gun...
I should totally get that finished. I've also embarked on rebuilding my now rather venerable Assault squad with some bling stolen from the Lamenters after Optera. These guys will be a ten-man squad eventually, using Sanguinary Guard bodies primarily:

The guy on the left is in disguise...
And finally, another Contemptor. Meanwhile, the next Imperial Armour (volume 12, the Fall of Orpheus) will be featuring the Minotaurs - I'm rather excited as to what that will be.

If it bleeds...

Flyers...

Two updates in a month? Blimey...
So, I've been building (and proofreading Betrayal). I've acquired a Storm Eagle, and despite having a few 'holy crap why don't I have an extra hand' moments, I'm thoroughly looking forward to painting it.

This is the Infernus, piloted by Brother Sciron. You'll note I've gone for a whole load of missile-based weapons - a Typhoon launcher in the nose, the rather awesome Vengeance launcher on the upper hull and four Hellstrike missiles in the wings. All blast templates, all the time...

It is a beast!

I'm planning a few extra bits of etched brass on the wings

Painting updates to follow - probably with some black chevron action to break up the gold on the hull.

Tuesday 23 October 2012

Helloooo?

Well it has been a while. I'm hoping to return to updating this a bit more regularly from now on, having got The Epic Summer of Shows (TM) out of the way.

So - models! I've been resisting the HH urge, until recently, having just started work on an Iron Warriors Contemptor, and in the meantime I've been putting Dystopian Wars stuff together - if you haven't seen the stuff for this range, check it out. It's ace!

Minotaurs-wise, well. I've got my Storm Talon finished, and I'm rather pleased with how it came out. I added a few decals and other details since taking these, but checken Sie aus, as they say in Germany*:
I'm very happy with how this has turned out

The business end, as they say... Ooer
I've also completed both Landspeeders, the first of which is below, of Squadron Bahamut-alpha. The third will be constructed towards Christmas, I reckon.

Now the only quandary is whether or not to texture the flying base...
And after many years of sterling service, I've got a new Librarian, the rather classically-featured Codicier Lykourgas:

He wants to rock (rock)!
Finally, I tinkered about with the rather luvverly 40k 25th Anniversary model to lead Tactical Squad Chilon, as you can see. I absolutely love building Tactical squads, you can pack so much character in with comparatively simple conversions. These guys are all about the drum mags - especially on the Heavy Bolter. You might have seen the Legion heavy weapon upgrades that FW will be releasing in the near future, first shown at Games Day; I doubt I had anything to do with Will choosing to go for drum mag heavy bolters, but as you can see it looks Badabass (ar har)

'Brothers, shoot the crap out of them!'
*They don't say that in Germany. If anything it'd be 'auschecken Sie, bitte'...

July's Thracian Caul pledge

So here we are in July. I've not long got back from Games Day Spain, sporting a neon orange staff t-shirt which is pretty cool, and at the end of this month I'll be in Chicago for Games Day as well. No Rest as they say.

So for Aaron's campaign I've successfully finished Tactical Squad Chilon. Here they be:

Veteran Sergeant Chilon is on the right.
He's the 40k 25th Anniversay model, sans beaky helmet and Ork head.

The brothers of Squad Chilon approve of drum mags.
The list that I'm using for the campaign has been chosen to allow me to finally finish off a few different projects that have been sat on my desk for a while.

Brother-Codicier Lykourgas in all his wip glory
He's got some blue on him...
The Storm Talon now has wings, undercoat, and masking tape for when I slap some gold on it. I'm going for some funky wing chevrons along the lines of the vehicle profiles in IA10. We'll see how well it goes...

It's name is Torment. The huge mug is it's nemesis.

Finally we have Landspeeder squadron Bahamut-alpha, which I've lost some bits of.

Hopefully I'll find another multi-melta...
So the pledge for July is finish the speeders and paint the Talon. I'll be back!

Storm Talons and Tactical Squads and Land Speeders, oh my.

By jingo tis a trifle dusty!
A fairly bite-sezed update for you... so I have been added into a campaign run by the esteemed Aaron of Black Library fame - 850pts and a Tale of Many Gamers style approach.

This month's pledge is to build and paint Tactical Squad Chilon (I've been re-working some of my Marines and Sergeants to have lovely sculpted shoulder pads); it's going well so far:
My paint station is a tip
Apologies for the shitty images - however I've got 8 out of the 10 Marines built, 2 of which are finished and the other 6 are in various stages of completeness.

Look at his drum mag. Drum mags rule.

And that's not all. I've impulse-bought a Storm Talon, and I'm shamelessly borrowing Red's idea to convert it slightly and make it look less like an Orca from Command & Conquer, and a bit more like an actual aircraft. I'm pretty happy with the wip so far:

So that's what I've been up to. Short but sweet, I know. I also finished the FW Moloc model to accompany my Enkomi, below - I;ll try and get some non-sucky images for you.

It Lives!!

Well it's a bite-sized update today but hopefully quite a good one because I've just finished this rather handsome chap:

Ivanus Enkomi, yesterday...

The jump pack is a fairly simple cut-n-shut

Mr Egan has really outdone himself, frankly

Saturday 11 February 2012

Non-LPC update!

As promised to the fair Rachel, this is my newly-finished, ray gun-tastic Contemptor Dreadnought, Venerable Isskar entombed within Drakor Rex:

Plasma Blaster and Heavy Conversion Beamer for all your energy weapon needs

Half Way

That's right, I'm halfway to finishing my LPC Vow for the B&C. All this stuff is totally finished:

The most badass Marine I think I've ever built

While these guys are nearly done... I'm finding it quite hard to settle into painting them, but I am a big fan of how cool the wedge looks and the implacableness of the Centurion-y sergeant...

Thursday 2 February 2012

Exciting news...

That's right. Primarily that I am almost done with the stuff I need to get finished for the B&C challenge - photos will follow reasonably shortly, I hope - but also that from tomorrow some of my Minotaurs will be proudly on display in the Miniatures Hall of Warhammer World.

Which is, I think, pretty darn cool. They'll be up there for a couple of months so if you are passing by, let me know what you think :)

I'm actually fanboi proud!

Saturday 21 January 2012

The B&C challenge continues...

Well I'm cracking through the bits that I'm doing for the B&C Librarium Painting Challenge 2012, and playing a bunch of games as well which is wicked. Mount&Blade: Warband is sucking huge swathes of my time away like a ridiculous time-vacuum, so I've not got as much done as I wanted. But I have found time to rebuild Brother-Captain Lyonidaes:
He's rocking a Relic Blade, Storm Shield, Digital Weapons and Artificer Armour. I'm actually rather proud of him.

However! The Challenge!
Devastator Squad Epheus, 50% fully completed...
And here's the WIP element
Meanwhile, their Razorback is finished! I need a name for it...
Something like Calibrous Maximus

I've also got one finished Boarding Marine, which I'm quite happy with except for his wierd lean...

I am really pleased with his shield!

The squad is expanding somewhat as well
